Welcome gift bags for UK residents-to-be!

My sister & her family are moving to the UK. I was thinking of making them up some little "welcome" gift-bags. Any ideas of what I could put in it as a "welcome to your new life in the UK/London" gift?

Here are my ideas...

Mum & Dad
Box of English Jelly babies
English biscuits (jaffa cakes etc)
Handmade gift voucher for a night of babysitting by ME!

Kids (I'm a bit stuck here - I don't have kids of my own!I want to try & keep away from too many sweet things...)
7 year old boy
Hand-made voucher for a day out in London with Aunty gg!

3 year old girl
???

Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

  • Thanks everyone for your thoughts & ideas. I live in London so will be able to pick up some local touristy stuff for the kids! Leaflets is a great idea too so I will pop a tube map etc into their bags as well.

My sister is pregnant so I might as well do a bag for new bubs as well! Thought I could pick up some baby suits from Primark and...?

Any other ideas welcomed! This is going to be fun!!

    Cheers,

How about some English teabags - we can't live without tea. Maybe even put some Marmite in there - mind you that is an acquired taste and I admit that I have never acquired it:rotfl:

How about those red telephone box style money boxes for the kids?

for the boy, how about a toy double decker bus or some other very English car?

If English isn't their first language (you don't say where they are moving from), how about a list of slang words with meanings?

How about a homemade voucher to treat them to fish and chips, or make them a roast dinner?

  • I just recently came over to australia for a year, and i got so excited when i saw a british shop! When i was looking around i hadnt even thought of these things as being 'british' before like paddington bear, he traveled to london didn't he? (not sure on the story there!)

depending on where they are from, cadbury's chocs could be a new discovery for them :)

The shop had things like gravy and dumpling mix, marmalade, marmite, winegums, edinburgh rock, branstons pickle, bonbon's, beafeater teddy's! lol

hope some of those help :)
