Inability to recreate home page

I use IE to connect with my ISP virgin. However, the computer on which I am writing this query cannot reproduce acurately the actual configuration of the home page. Instead of running from left to right and north to south, the text is crammed to the left hand side, leaving acres of space on the right. It didn't use to do this; several months ago it was fine. Despite asking Virgin for their advice, their support team have never answered my email (what a surprise!!) and it is not such a great problem that I feel the need to buy advice from them on their hot line! Any suggestions?
I have a horrible feeling this may be down to MSN's second XP update package, which may be destorting something!
Along similar lines, but not quite so seriously, MSE pages usually line up correctly. However, from time to time, they spill off the right hand side of the screen, prompting a scroll bar to appear. Flicking in and out of such a page may induce it to line up correctly again. Is this the same problem?
Thanks in advance for any help!
