I was under the impression you were a 'lodger' if you lived with the house owner in a room but a 'tenant' if you lived with others in a flat and the owner didn't live there (like in this case). Or am I completely wrong
Your completley wrong. The owner of the property is irrelevant. Its who the landlord is that counts.0 -
Hi all,
I am living in a rented property and signed a contract for 6 months however we have been here 12 months. I want to move out on the 1st of July but have just decided today im not sure how much notice I must give as I did not resign anything? Also the company we are renting from have been an nightmare we have insisted they fix our boiler which is leaking and hasnt worked since December which has been awful as the house isnt insulated so in the winter the temperature in the house was freezing.
Please can anyone help me?
Thank you,
Twinnyx

You are now on a periodic agreement so if you pay your rent monthly you need to give a months notice from rent date - do it in WRITING.
If you are concerned about the LA or LL request an inspection before you move out to go through the inventory and ensure you know what is expected of you to get your deposit back. By doing this you have a couple of weeks to sort out any problems and hopefully have a stress free handover.0 -

I beg to differ with TBS - notice should expire on LAST or FIRST day of period.. but many tenants & Landlords don't know this...
Cheers!
