Not signing on whilst sick

Hi
I've a stress fracture on one of my toes, and have to wear a stormtrooper-like boot thing for 6 weeks until it's healed properly. I've done this before, and know what a complete pain in the whatsit it is - mobility is severely restricted. I'm signing on at present, but the Job Centre is 3 miles away, and it's a long walk to the nearest bus stop, something I'm not happy about doing in the circumstances - it's possible, but really hard work and very slow going.
Is it possible to get a docs note to sign me off from signing on, so to speak? Is it possible to not sign on for the full six weeks, or will they stop my claim and restart it?
Advice from those with job centre experience of this appreciated.

Only your doc can tell you if he is willing to sign you off sick, if he does your claim for JSA will be stopped and you'll need make a claim for IS/ESA (sorry I'm not sure which applies to short term circumstances) its likely to take some time to sort out and you'll have to reclaim JSA when you're fit for work again."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

I think the choice now for new claims is either contribution based ESA or income based ESA.0 -
This injury would not happen to coincide with your holiday would it (the holiday that you were trying to find a way to not declare to the JCP)?
How will you manage to get around whilst you are away? :rolleyes:Gone ... or have I?0 -

Goodness, the gestapo is still alive and well, but for your information, this has been a long term problem and the cast will be worn AFTER I get back from my holiday, which was, if you'll look through your notes, bought and paid for before redundancy.0
