Want relaxing holiday on Greek Island

Hi

Me and my boyfriend are looking to book a weeks holiday on a greek island in May 05. We just want a quiet relaxing time and not 'Blackpool in the sun' if you know what I mean!!

We went to a quiet little place in Kefalos (Kos) in sept 03 and it was perfect, but we want to try somewhere different.

Any recommendations?

  • To be honest, in May most of the 'Blackpool in the sun' resorts will be quiet. The season doesn't get lively till mid june so you're pretty much in with a result in most places.
Malia is a fairly good bet. Go for the old town and you've got the option of heading into the main strip if you want a livelier night.

Santorini...Go to Kamari and stay at the Boat House Hotel it's right on the beach and a sea view room will cost you about 40 euros a night (per room) B&B http://www.thesaurus.gr/hotels/santorini/kamari/boathouse_hotel/boathouse_hotel.htm
Get the number from Directory enquiries and book direct.
Taxi will cost about 7 euros from the airport and try excel.com for flight
If you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel

  • Thassos is nice. It doesn't have an airport so you catch a ferry from the mainland to get there.

Also very nice is Paxos. It doesn't have many roads so you hire a small boat on a daily basis & drive to a deserted beach you fancy & drop anchor. (boat hire very cheap!)

Santorini as mentioned is a beautiful island with cobbled narrow streets etc in Thira (Fira) & Oia. It is definately a relaxing island as opposed to the mad party places like Malia, Falaraki & Ayia Napa etc. http://www.santorini.net/home.html

This website is always worth a look before booking.

Can also thoroughly recommend Thassos for a quiet holiday.  Golden Beach resort was lovely, even in July. A few nice tavernas, lovely beach & a few shops & that's about it. May might possibly be TOO quiet though, and the weather not guranateed, as it's one of the most northerly islands.

Further south, Pefkos on Rhodes is nice, though bigger than Golden Beach.

Kalami on Corfu is very picturesque, and still quite 'villagey' in nature.

If you're willing to consider the mainland, what about Pelion?..it's opposite the island of Skiathos. It's very quiet & has the same pretty lush greenery of Skiathos, which is one of the prettiest islands.

Kosmar holidays are a 'budget' greek specialist, so they have a wide selection of islands and lesser-known resorts to choose from, with very reasonable prices.
