NewBee Debt-Free WannaBee

Hi all

Just wanted to introduce myself...

First time we've found ourselves in such a pickle!

We were crediit card virgins till a few years ago OMG we've had our fingers burnt for dipping into that fire!:o
We are benefit dependant due to our son who has complex medical needs.
Our naivity has lead to us being rather stupid and trusting our bank..they're most definately the ones responsible for our demise..ho hum:rolleyes:

Having sat on our accumulated debt mess and hoped something would magically appear and haul us outta our mess...we hid our heads in the sand for a wee whiley...well we're out;)

Having researched online and re-joined this amazing place...we have a money advisor visiting us here at home on Monday..found via Money Scotland and through advice given by National Debtline.

It's a start...

I think I'm gonna be popping in here alot o'er the next decade!!!!

  • Hi Izzy

I'm a newbie so don't have any amazing advice (the gurus will be by in a minute or two!) but I wanted to say welcome and well done for wanting to deal with things. This site is fab and I already feel a lot more positive about the mess I'm in.

    Best of luck

  • Well it really sounds as though you've made a great start with your debt advisor meeting on Monday - I really hope it goes well and that you're able to relax a bit over the weekend knowing things are DEFINITELY going to get better from here on in! :j :j

I'm not quite brave enough to start my own thread yet but have done my SOA which seems to be the first step in really getting a grip on things (scary but worth it!). Have you done that? If not, you can find it here: www.makesenseofcards.co.uk

    Hi again
I have been and used online tools such as the CCCS debt remedy and been to CAB and done a personal budget..incomings and outgoings...but the chap at the CAB was useless..as good as a chocolate fireguard...if we'd took his advice we'd be still in a debt mess 40 yrs from now!!!He was an ex bank manager and 2 hours of telling us how to budget wasn't any help!(we have 2 kids one is registerd disabled!)
I looked at that site it looks like it too has alot of good advice..the National Debtiline also posted me out info and letter templates..but this lady coming on Monday was a reccomended advisor I've chatted with her she sounds like she'll help us out...
thanks again for welcoming me and having a wee chat...

Well..the lovely lady money advisor from our local Trading Standards visited us yesterday. We had a good lengthy discussion and think we know which option we are taking. The debt tools I used via CCCS came in handy.
The 1st thing we need to do afore anything else is get our incoming benefits paid into a new account with a different bank to stop our current bank taking the money whenever they want and charging us extortionate charges when they cause us to go over our overdraught!!!
Then it's crunch time...are we "will pay" "wont pay" or "some pays"
We don't have any assets,we live in a council house so at present we're looking at being "some pays"
I'll pop back in once our heads have got round what this all means for us and after we've received all the info she's posting out to us.
I have to say it is beginning to feel like a load is being lifted...I can see daylight...coming outta the deep dark forest into a sun lit clearing...I oh so hope...
    thanks for being here...
    hugs

    Welcome aboard!

That's great that someone came out to see you. It sounds like you have a really good service where you live.

As Rubyslipper mentioned, it may be worth posting up your Statement of Affairs www.makesenseofcards.co.uk on this forum. You will get loads of help and ideas about how you can save/make money, and it will give you a boost also.

It may also be worth checking on www.entitledto.co.uk to make sure that you are getting all your benefits.

Good luck. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

  • Thanks Damita and Forris:beer:

We feel so much better...and the sun is shining today!:j

It wasn't straight forward Forris..we went via CAS(Citizens Advice Scotland) and the advice we got was rather lame to be honest..I found this lady via National Debtline and Money Scotland website..we corresponding via email, then phone then she came out to our house..which I agree was truly great..on our territory and really relaxed.:D

We had a benefits check done not so long ago(due to es having special needs we have good support)
The SOA on the website looks a wee bit complex for our personal situ but I'll take a better look later...THANKS!
