    I guess some of us without a huge amount of financial knowledge have in the past come into some money and used financial advisors as the way into some sort of investment. At the time the prospects long term looked good. Now we have learned to understand the meaning of the phrase " the value of your investments can go down as well as up" and I for one realise my attitude to risk has taken a reality check.

    unfortunately many small investors panic buy at peaks, and panic sell at troughs

    A little unfair gozomark? I bought after due consideration, not in a panic, and I have not withdrawn anything except a bond with a 5 yr capital guarantee which I decided to cash in to use differently. For the rest, I am sitting tight as I am in for the long term, hopefully 10- 15 yrs.
