Hello all,
I think this is the correct place (lots of topics).
I have been charged because I forgot to cancel a free trial a few months ago. I have cancelled now though but to ensure no further payments are taken. What right do I have to force this company to remove my debit card information from their system?
I have been thinking of canceling my card and going through the hassle of starting again. But I am afraid that if a payment bounces because of the card cancelled then this will scar my credit file. It is not a direct debit just a debit card payment each time so maybe this won't affect my credit rating.

If the company is competent and honest (and most companies at least try to be) then you won't get charged again.
Cancelling your card will do no good - if they do charge it will just get transferred to your new one.0 -
You made the mistake, put it down to experience. If they take more money it will be because they have a contract with you to do that.0

If you have cancelled the contract and you have proof in writing then you have nothing to worry about.
If you don't have proof in writing I suggest you write a letter to the company sending it by recorded delivery cancelling the contract.
Then keep a copy of both the recorded delivery receipt and the letter in case they claim they haven't got it.
Also I suggest in future you don't set up continuous card payments as they are much more hassle to stop then direct debits or standing orders.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
