the cheap ones are generally the same stick, it just the dear ones are hidden in plastic and you just see the banded strip. the digital ones are same too. all of them have the same make up to determine the level in urine. but as with all things made, there will be one or 2 that are faulty. they should all be just as good as each other. ive used the cheap ones before i got pregnant (when trying ) and they told me straight away i was pregnant a day after my missed day. i still use them now with no problems for baby 2.A happy wife, and mum to 2 lovely little boys :j0

Lol that made me giggle! I did check with the lady at the pharmacy as i thought surely they cant work at like 50p a test but she said they are just the same and so far everyone she knows who has used them they have worked.
After reading your post though i couldnt resist getting my hubby to try one, you'll be pleased to know it was negative! lol
Give it 9 months and we'll definitely know if they work or not! What shall I put here?

The main problem with cheaper tests is that they tend to need a higher level of hCG present to work, which means it will take a few days longer for you to show as pregnant.
As hCG is only present for about the first 3 months (it's supposedly what causes morning sickness), then a pregnancy test will always show as negative at 7 months
This doesn't mean that cheaper tests don't work, just that they may not be as sentitive. You can get 20 tests for £3.79 with free postage on ebay at the moment.
And before anyone asks, yes, some people will use all 20!0 -

I usually go for a mid-range test. I figure if I cannot afford the pregnancy test then I certainly cannot afford the child that might follow!!
Or you can have free pregnancy testing at your doctors, NHS direct centre or school/uni nurse.0 -
Came across http://www.homehealth-uk.com/medical/pregnancy-tests.htm - friend uses them and highly recommends. They also have a 'mix and match' where you choose a selection of ovulation tests and pregnancy tests. The best pregnancy tests are the ultra sesitive 10MIU that help early detection of hcg (4 days before your period). Please note that I am in no way linked to the website - just honest consumer experience.0

Ha ha reading these posts brought me back to when we I was pregnant with my 1st. I was 6 months gone and for a laugh me and my friend bought a pack of 2 from poundland. We got back to my bf's and had one each. Mine came up negative... at 6 months gone that was hard to believe but my friends was positive. She never really thought about having a baby before but after the result it kept niggling away so this time she went and bought a twin pack from a reputable brand and indeed she was pregnant. After that experience I think its just hit and miss with these cheaper versions.0
