I moved into a brand spanking new property last march - all mod cons, heavily insulated, very economical to run.
The property we moved out of was a 1920's typical terrace - high ceilings, large rooms, 15yr old boiler, wooden floors, wooden window frames etc.
We paid at the old house £55/mth for joint gas/elec with British Gas and when we moved out we got about £80 refunded!
We are now paying £105/mth for both with Scottish power.
Is it me being a bit thick, or is this REALLY how much the cost of utilities has increased in 12-18mths? It makes NO SENSE and Scottish Power won't have any of it.
Thanks in advance!

How much you were/are paying by DD is not a good indication of consumption. You really need to work out how many kWhs per year you use.
£105 a month is slightly below the average annual dual fuel bill.
Don't forget that good insulation etc affects only heating - not electricity consumption.
Tariffs vary widely but as a 'ball park' figure Gas increased last year by 50% and electricity a lot less.
Were you on a fixed price deal with BG in your old house?
Had you built up a large credit balance with BG and thus they kept your payments low?0 -
£105 a month for both is cheap. I pay twice as much. :mad:0

Sounds right to me, its slightly less than what we pay with Scottish Power.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

Good grief it has changed a lot in a short period of time hasn't it!?
we lived with my parents for 4mths before we moved into this property so weren't paying out on bills but I am guessing we must've been well in credit with BG. I can't check anymore because I've chucked the old bills. Never mind.
thanks for reassuring me!0 -
FYI, we are renting, and pay about £30 a month for Electric (On a meter) and £29 for gas direct debit (Central Heating, Cooker). Both with BGas.
Only a 2 Bedroom town house though.
I take it you live in a big house?£105 is high imo.
