I got a letter from DVLA this morning too, saying that my tax expires on 31st December when it actually expires on 31st January >:(

When I phoned them the treated me like I was lying and told me that their computers showed 31st Dec. I had to tramp outside in my PJs, get my tax disc and tell them the serial number, amount paid and date and place of purchase.

If I hadn't phoned them they would have fined me automatically....Bas****s!
Just run, run and keep on running!

  • probably fine me when they get my letter

S-G - a few weeks ago in the e-mail there was something about getting your solicitors bills audited to make sure you'd been charged fairly.
I can't remember what board it was on but someone else might remember
  • I've just changed the letter to something a bit more polite. Better chance they'll not bank my cheque than if i told them i hope they choke on their Christmas turkey.

Spendless, i know the thread you're talking about but i got the bill on Friday and have to pay by cleared funds by Wednesday for the completion date to go ahead on time so i'll just have to bite the bullet. He did say that the extra £200 was because of the additional work and he did have approx 12 inches of paper work on his desk he had to go through. Also said i could pay the extra £200 at the end of Jan if it'd help me..

Leads me onto another rant. I paid £3250 from my current account into my Ing account on 3rd December cos i was sick of waiting for the solicitor to get in touch. On the 4th he phoned me (typical) so i had to transfer the money straight back from my ING. It hit the ING on the 6th and then wanted another 3 days to clear..
  • Using solicitors is like daylight robbery! Being nice unfortunately doesn't seem to get you anywhere - I managed to clock up a bill of just over £1,000 with a solicitor and yes I ended up divorced, which was the intial aim, but god only knows what she did that amounted to that much - wrote a few letters and that was about it! When I complained, nicely in a letter, her response was "I am sorry you feel that way" and I had to cough up anyway.

    Good luck.
You never know how far you can fly, till you spread your wings.
  • worst part of it is my mortgage bloke works for Country Wide and he said i could use one of their solicitors but they're quite expensive and would be at least £650.
Girl i work with is buying and using Country Wide.. her solicitors bill?? £300

    S-G,
Just keep taking the tranqs and rock gently back and forward ... then find a lead pipe and smash up the solicitors office ... it might cost a few pence more but at least you will have got value for money

Know what you mean about DVLA though. We've been in this house over 2 years so previous owners will have had to have taxed their cars at least twice. A couple of months ago a letter popped through my letterbox, to the previous owners, regarding re-taxing their vehicle. Good job they only moved round the corner so I could take it to them.

What I want to know is, considering they are able to keep up to date with all the changes of details etc so they can chase us for our tax, how come they reverted to a 2 1/2 yr old address?
