I am nearing the end of my degree and was seriously considering training to teach in primary schools. I have taken a job as a teaching assistant at a local primary school to see what it's like actually working in a school. It has been a real eye-opener and I seriously recommend that anyone seriously considering teaching works in a school first.

I graduated last year with an idea of of studying for a PGDE (Scottish qualification). I wanted to make sure it was for me so I am working as a classroom assistant in a secondary school. Love it. I enjoy working with a teen age group and find them a lot of fun (sometimes frustrating ). I am now sure it is the career path for me. Unfortunately the subject I want to teach is hugely oversubscribed so competition for places is tough. Will keep trying and I agree that getting some experience in a school is a really good idea.

Hi, I currently work in the construction industry and have been seriously thinking of retraining as a teacher. I've got a degree and masters in geology. I was thinking secondary or further education, but I don't really know where to start. Any advice / opinions would be welcome.
