left my job can i claim anything

I just wanted to say thank you for this post.
I left my job a week ago in order to relocate to be closer to family. It's not far to tar voluntary job leavers with the same brush; everybody has different circumstances. I have worked for several years, my only previous claim for unemployment was for 1 week back in the nineties! I am doubting that I will be able to claim any benefits, but this post has inspired me to check rather than not bothering. I don't see it as a 'free holiday' as I have paid my tax dues (even when studying at university - only one year I didn't make enough contributions), and I'm searching for work.
Thank you to those who chose to give constructive advice and to the original poster for asking a question I never thought to!0 -
if you leave your job you cant claim jsa for 6 weeks i know cause it happened to me
Not necessarily, I have been told that my JSA may be reduced by 40% because I left voluntarily, throught health reasons though. You have to fill out a ES84JP form and state your case for full JSA, this will then go to a 'Decision Maker'. Full JSA is paid in the meantime.
Due to my health I hope to get Full JSA, however depends on the person dealing with my case. If for health reasons include a letter from the doc for example, and any other paperwork you feel is relevant.0
