:embarasse Appologies if this is old news, but Virgin have just got rid of my e-mail account including unread e-mails and all my contacts.
Had changed to Sky around 3 years ago because of Virgin's awful customer service. Told I could carry on using my ntlworld e-mail address.
All ok until today- all gone, called virgin- said as they were not my ISP they had deleted my account. Not happy can understand why they don't want my e-mails in system, but why now and why oh why did they not give me even a week's notice as e-mail address was getting used frequently.
Anyone elso suffered this way. Re-enforces my reasons for leaving!!

Did you transfer the ntl account to a pay as you go once you'd changed ISP?It aint over til I've done singing....0

If you closed your account years ago you don't expect them to suddenly cancel your email address now. I agree that they shouldn't have done them & would write them a letter of complaint. However, I don't think it will achieve anything other than making you feel better.Wedding 5th September 20150

I suspect VM like a number of isp's has a policy of deleting customer email accounts after X time if they are not on an active account (or accessed via their dial up service).
It's quite likely they've just ran a clean up on the server to clear out old accounts over a certain length of time, which may not have been the policy when the OP left them.
Whilst it would have been good of VM to have informed the op that they were going to close the email account, I don't think they have any obligation as the op isn't/hasn't been a customer of theirs for several years, although it's even possible they sent such a warning as snail mail to the last address on record (my first ISP was virgin dial up, when I left them they sent a postal warning about a year later to inform me of the impending deletion of my email accounts, however that was nearly 10 years ago).0 -
Sorry OP but since you closed the account years ago they werent obliged to keep the account open so they deleted it, im with virgin and they've been fine0
