Martin recommends Amex for the cash-back. From reading the joining literature they seem to want £75 as a joining fee. Am I mistaken??

What literature do you mean? Neither of Amex UK cards has 'joining fee', although Amex Blue has annual 'servicing charge' £15 if your annual spending is less than £500.0

Are you talking about the Amex Green or Amex Gold Chargecards? These have fees of either £37.50 or £95.00 yearly.0 -
Martin is refering to the Amex Credit Cards which do not have a joining fee, and offer cashback. Joining fees are a feature of Amex Charge Cards (not the same thing).0

I looked at an AMEX gold card whilst working in Belgium and walked away in disgust after being told by the sales man that there was a €250.00 charge for accepting the card. the only benefit of this card was that you could gain air-miles quite efficiently.
