wow.. what a day.
got to the courts this morning at 9.25 and had to report to a window. Some nice guy greeted me and went through all my paper work there and then, which was strange as i thought we might go into a room or something. After everything was all in order I had to pay the fee's and swear on the new testement etc, which was all good.
Then i was told to take a seat and wait to be called. 10 minutes later the same guy called me, took me up stairs and said I'ld be called in front of the judge shortly. 20 minutes later, some older but still nice guy called me and took me into this massive room with this little lady sitting what seemed like miles over of the other side. I was told to take and seat. She then asked me a couple of questions, stuff like 'am i sure', 'do i know all the cons etc' and after that she said she'd now declare me bankrupt. I was then to wait for an usher to take me back down stairs.
5 minutes later I was downstairs and advised i'ld be called again to have a telephone interview with the OR. So again another 10 to 15 minutes pasted and then I was taken to another room where i was left on my own and told the phone would ring shortly and just to answer it.
Some more time later the phone rang and i was introduced to caroline @ the OR office. She went through a small questionnaire with me and advised that i'd be contacted soon by post to let me know if anything else is required and if another interview is need, so now i'm just playing the waiting game.
I went into my bank as advised by the OR to see what they plan to do, which they took my card and advised the account will be closed asap. So now i'm currently looking to open another one (any advice welcome).
So all in all, not as bad as i was thinking but still something i wouldn't wish upon anyone !! Just hope all the OR stuff is sorted soon so I know where i stand.. and does anyone know where i can find out about who long it will be before I'm discharged etc..
Any questions, please ask away..0 -
See, we told you it would be fine
. Anyway,as regards bank accounts, you're going to need a basic one. Which bank are you currently banking with? I went for a NatWest step account (it was one of the few banks I didn't owe anything to). Basic accounts are very easy to open (although some people on here have had trouble). Just go into your nearest branch with two forms of ID and fill out the form. Usually takes about 7 days. Natwest were really good with me. I was quite embarresed going in because obviously you have to let them know you are bankrupt. I went in said I wanted a Step account, and the lady tried to get me to open one of their normal accounts. Told her I was bankrupt and to be honest she couldn't be more helpful. She was quite up with what goes on and went out of her way to help.
What I'm trying to say (and going a long way round it) is that people don't seem to bat an eyelid now and the banks seem to be much more accomadating with accounts, so you shouldn't really have any problems.0 -

my account was with natwest and i own them nothing but they're still going to close it.. I've been advised either barcleys or coop, have to pop in and see.. thanks for the info thou.0 -
the co-op account ( called flex account i think) is good basic account as it has debit card (solo/electron) and allows direct debits/standing orders.
You will either be automatically discharged after one year, or less if your case is suitable for early discharge. If you get dsicharged early the OR will notify you of the discharge date by letter. normally 6-9 months after the BO date.0 -
Thanks for the info A2C0

well got my telephone interview date through the post, 4th April 2006.. should have been earlier but they sent the paper work to the wrong address to start so missed the first one
never mind..
since declaring myself br, had a couple of calls chasing debts, felt good to be able to tell them to contact the courts.. still trying to figure out what happens in terms of outstanding bills etc but the OR office have been real helpful.0 -
hi all.. sorry its been such a long time but been off work ill and then haven't got access to the internet anywhere else.
anyways last time i posted, i had my date for my telephone interview with the or (4th April - yesterday).
so i booked the day off work, got my self all ready for it, thinking it wasn't going to be bad at all, boy was i wrong.
the interview lasted for about 33 minutes in total and she went through everything.. she wanted details on what i had spent, why i had spent and where i had spent it. I felt really grilled afterwards, much more scarier then the whole court process lol
anyways thats out the way now, just got to see what happens next in terms of any further details they want etc and the report they send out.
if anyone's got any questions regarding the whole process, feel free to send me a pm as i don't get much chance to check on here anymore..0
