    I've just had the fire service check out this house, they were here about an hour, with comprehensive questionaire, and they also provided 3 extra 10 year battery alarms. Lots of good advice, escape plan, that sort of thing. Literally checked every socket . Free, including the alarms.
    They were pleased that no woodburner,and that the cookware switched off automatic. The only flame in the house was the gas pilot light.
    They asked about smokers and children who could play with matches.

    consider a carbon monoxide detector too, if you have a gas boiler or any other gas appliances / wood burning fires etc.
