hi people im new to this site. its brilliant.
im going away to volunteer in the summer for 10 weeks, working with wildlife in greece. the project has said i need to get my own insurance. would this just be a case of getting normal 10 week travel insurance or would i need to get somthing different, coz im volunteering. non of the work is dangerous or working with machinary, maybe a bit of swimming in the sea tho.
insurance confuses me, any ideas anyone? anyone any experiance of this?
thanks

Would this be the waiters?Call a Broker and get some specialist advice - don't go for a cheap and cheerfull offering. Have a look at https://www.insurancechoice.co.uk and give them a call. I'm sure that other people will also suggest some Brokers for you to try (Dacouch?).....All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0 -
A broker or preferably a Travel Broker would be best for you, are you a student if so Endsliegh or the Student Union might be able to help as its what you are having a lot of students do.
What you have to be careful of is a lot of policies exclude any type of work, some will cover non manual work and a small amount will include certain types of manual work. So you need to ensure your policy does not have a manual work exclusion and if there are any restrictions that you understand them.
I have just googled "Overseas + Volunteer" and there are quite a few websites devoted to giving advice to volunteers
I would recommend you read the Foreign Office's "Know Before You Go" section as this gives good advice.
I would recommend PJ Haymen which is a good policy or Citybond, you might need to ring them to confirm the work situation0 -
I have been out to kenya to do voluntary work with kids out in the slums and i jsut brought a general annual insurance - i believe it worked out cheaper for me.£27.76/£2018 in 20180

cheers for the advice guys. will look into these things. im not a student so will go the broker way probably. its costing me loads to do this thing so i may have to just go with a standard travel insurance package and risk it, also got my EHIC card. specialist insurance sounds like it could just add to the expence. bloody volunteering! who'd do it! eh!
thanks0 -
Do consider that some Travel Insurance companies will exclude cover for personal liability (any accident or injury that you cause anyone/anything else whilst working/volunteering).0

Please be aware that a "Standard" policy may not cover you for what you are doing so if you have a claim they could refuse to pay for it so as with any Insurance Policy read the small print and be aware of what you are covered for and more importantly what you are not covered for!
Have a look at this link which is someone who did not take any cover when they were working abroad and had an accident.

Speak to the people that are arranging the trip.
If they have any nous about them, they'll already have a discounted scheme.
If not - tuck your socks in.Reassuringly expensive0
