    Why?

    I see it as expertise in an area.

    Plumbing = Plumber
    Car = Mechanic
    Investments = IFA

    Good point - ALL of those professions have shady reputations and why? They have all the control over ppl that "need" their services so they take the pi-ss and charge extortionately for it. Shouldn't be allowed, it's as BAD as the banks themselves charging for OD and letters and the like..

    Dont worry, theres another one born every minute isnt there.

    LOL.... poor unite - is business drying up a little now that your profession has screwed the nation into the ground with bad advice and over lending in an attempt to cream off the commissions and so forth??

    AJ Happy days...

    Average Joe, has an average job, 2.3 kids and can see the future, along with an amazing insight into what people do for a living......

    But and heres the SHOCKER YOUR Wrong.

    How can anyone blame IFA's for the state the world is IN, think it may have a little more to do with greedy bankers.............

    But what do I know...

    I hope you don't suffer from these "knee jerk reactions" when giving people "advice" - you're a bit of a loose cannon really aren't you?

    I'm self employed - I don't believe in working for other people, it's generally a false economy and has little security. My future is in my own hands.

    Your quite happy to criticise all sorts of people who like yourself work for themselves and imply that they are rip off merchants, but what is it EXACTLY you do. Come on put it up there for people to have a shot at!!

    I think you'll find that brokers aren't responsible for overlending, they provide a service. We can only arrange mortgages if banks are willing to lend!!

    Yep - we're not needed by everyone, but then again not everyone needs a plumber/mechanic etc - but sometimes people do it themselves and cost themselves a fortune in doing so, sometimes you go to a mechanic and pay over the odds, there are extremes in all situations

    Oh I agree - I dont blame Mtg Advisers for the state of the UK's finance issues. I do think that when people are in need of a service, then that service provider capitalises on those factors as they have essentially, a captive punter.

    What do I do? A sports instructor. People come to me if they wanna improve their overall fitness and sporting ability. I specialise in tennis (was a semi pro for a number of years) but I mainly get clients that wanna work out for fitness reasons generally.

    How does that make you any different from an IFA? You facilitate a need that people have. Some people will say they dont need you. Others will. You charge people for those that use your service. You set your fees. We dont know what your ability is. You could be an untrained, unqualified waster or a highly qualified and respected instructor.

    Oh, a fitness instructor. We all know about them. Go around killing their clients with heart attacks or putting them in hospital with elbow injuries and charging fees even though it's the customers doing the exercising and they could do the exercise more cheaply without paying the instructor.

    Don't take this seriously, I'm joking, using the same sort of silliness about your type of work that others sometimes use about IFAs. :)
