comparethemarket.com - excessive sales phone calls

comparethemarket.com produced some good insurance quotes but watch out for sales phone calls afterwards, I've had 5 in less than a week, including 'silent calls' when they're too busy to pick up the phone after calling you.
Not worth the hassle and I won't use again.

Why don't you put the Insurers or Comparison sites own phone number in? I do as they kindly won't do a quote without a telephone number.0

Mickey mouse gets all my spam emails (poor Mickey).
Just put in false contact details (NOT address as this affect your quote).
Certain details must be accurate e,g, age and postcode as they affect the quote, but your phone number and email address are not relevant to the quote.0 -
as above, I always give the number off a redundant sim card and a hotmail address that I never check.
Most offer a save quote anyway and you are in control with the ones you want to speak to or continue online to buy
Sometimes you start receiving phone calls and emails again at renewal !!!0 -

Don't give them your number would be the obvious response to thisHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Most of the website will not quote without a phone number as they love to collect data for making all these phone calls and for selling on your details.
They do have a opt in or opt out check box (or a lot of the time both but worded the opposite way around so you can't tick them both without thinking)
Come in handy the next year as well for renewal time.
The putting their own number in is a good workaround though.
I haven't tried ringing 07777 123456 but it might be a real number. Thats what i usually use.
I might test the validation for some premium rate lines next time on my home insurance quote.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep
& Choo Choo for trains!!0 -
It does not allow you to quote unless you enter a telephone number, a lot of the sites are like that now
Are you sure...?
01234 456789 is acceptableHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

I agree but the original poster stated they wouldnt be using comparethemarket.com again because they rang him. Is it a massive surprise when you leave your number within the abyss??Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. To me it was to be perfectly honest. Is it a massive surprise when you leave your number within the abyss??
I never expected to be pestered at work for a very small amount of money.
A lot of people put stuff in quickly just to get a quote, without necessarily thinking about the implications of every single question.
Obviously once you know better, then you don't do it.
But I can find it understandable.
But why do you think this line of questioning is useful??
The idea of this site is to help people not attack them for failing to cynically question the implications of the minutae.0
