cant open an egg account!?

Im trying to open an Instant savings account with Egg. I received a letter asking me for proof of ID:
2 of the following: credit card statement (within past 3 months), utility bill (with my name on), landline phone bill (with my name on). I dont have a credit card statement within the past 3 months (they wont accept a printed out statement from my web account. I could ask Lloyds to send me a statement but I dont know if theyll charge for this), and - because Im a tenant - I dont have a landline bill or utility bill with my name on.
I phoned them regarding this, and the abrupt/rude/offhand lady offered no help at all. What more can I do? I want to be their customer, and I can furnish them with any other information (they wont accept my current account statement because its with the same bank as my credit card and they wont accept my car insurance statement because I havnt renewed in the last 3 months!), but they just wont let me! Surely they are turning away lots of potential business!?
So, unless anyone can offer me any ideas on how I can prove to Egg that I am who I say I am (they wont accept guarantors and it doesnt mention about accepting passports) - who else can I go for an instant savings account that offers around the same interest rate?

Egg dropped their rate from 3.35 to 2.85 this morning - so you might want to look elsewhere anyway. On the other hand, others will no doubt be dropping their rates by 0.5% fairly soon. Can't help you re ID I'm afraid.

Don't forget Egg has the variable bonus rate also, so wouldn't surprise me if it goes much lower.
