How to Check A Company Track Record ?

Hi,
I am not sure if this is the right place, but i was looking to invest abroad in property. Financial projections uk agents claim vary.
Is there a way of checking the track record of companies ? if they've let people down in the past etc ? As thsi requires alot of money.
Can we check county court judgements ? or question trading standards or some body ?
If you feel i would get better answers from another board or this is the wrong board ... please move.
Any help would be most appreciated.
