Sale of goods act & food

Options
Does anyone know if the sale of goods act covers food ?

My reason for asking is I wrote to complain to Tesco about some McDougalls pies I bought in their store, (there was no meat in them), I enclosed copy of the receipt and a photo of the contents of the pie's (I know, sad).

There reply was as it was not a tesco product, they can't deal with it, but they have informed the supplier and asked them to investigate.

5 weeks later, I have still had no contact from Mcdougalls, have rung Tesco CS 3 times & wrote to them again, they say they keep contacting the supplier and say they will contact me.

any thoughts ? apart from I should have something better to do.

Contact the supplier yourself and write to tesco again to complain about their lack of help

Thanks I did contact the supplier at the same time as originally contacted Tesco, back in January, in some ways it seems so petty, but when money is tight buying food that is nothing like the discription or the picture on the box is annoying.

You purchased the goods from Tescos so your contract is with Tescos, they cannot shirk their responsibilities.

Having said that if the pies are with a well known brand they will almost certainly sort the matter out without fuss which is what Tescos should do if there is a problem

As said. You bought the pies from Tesco, therefore it is a Tesco's responsibility, nobody elses. If they want to take the matter up with the actual pie maker then that is up to them, but it's not up to you to do that on their behalf.

Besides if I was tesco I'd want to know why I was being supplied with meatless pies!

    Come on you Irons
  • Why didn't you just take them back to the store?, it would seem the most logical thing to do.

You should have taken the item to tesco for a refund and complained to premier foods for the quality of the pies, all tesco can do is refund the money if its a non tesco item,
