Petplan Insurance Cancellation

Hey,
Just wondering if it's possible to cancel the policy after a few months with Petplan if you take out the 12month cover paying monthly? Or do you have to pay the full 12 months? Also does claiming affect it in any way?
Thanks
Ryan

If you make a claim with pet plan or any Insurer they will expect you to pay the rest of the years pemiums (up until the renewal)
Why are you cancelling your pet plan policy0 -
I'm stuck with PetPlan as we just found out our dogs got a tumor on her tail just before the renewal, so no other insurer will take her on and PetPlan have Hiked the cost of the premium even though we have never claimed, I can't really afford it. I don't know if she'll need an opp or if there will be anything they can do about it, I can't afford £800/yr, 20% towards the vet bill and £70 excess =[ was wondering if it would be better to pay monthly so we could cancel before the end of the year, I'm really stuck with what to do!0

Could you transfer to a plan with lower levels of cover, that might reduce the premium to something you can afford but retain cover.
The £70 excess with pet plan is normally payable once per year per condition, does the same apply on the 20% excess with them?0 -
I'm not sure if its once per year/condition as we've never claimed. As for the lowest level we're already on it, the value one and its still extremely costly. I could get cover with Tesco or someone similar for £150 a year but theirs no way they would cover her =[0

I have a percentage contributiontowards my dogs insurance and Im afraid to say its on top of the excess. (well it is with mine via pet protect anyway)
So if bill is £500 you have the £70 excess and then also have to pay 20% of the remainder of the bill so another £86 and the insurer will pay the other £344.
Hope your dog is OK I know from experience how them being ill and having vet bills can be a worry!;):o:rolleyes:;):o:o:cool:

Ring Pet Plan and ask them as you often pay the £70 excess once a year for each condition and then the 20% on each claim.
That may influence your decision a bit0 -
It's not any one thing its just the whole PetPlan issue I wouldn't even go as far as calling it insurance as your not really saving any money! It would cost a similar amount to have a big operation and paying it yourseld, as it would for the premium and added fees whilst making a claim. I think I'm just angry that we're now stuck with them and can't do anything about it =[ I really wouldn't be able to afford having insurance at this price or paying for the vet fees myself, with or without the 20% fee, the premium is just far too much0
-
If you had been with most other companies they would have excluded any cover for the condition at the renewal immediately after they had paid out.
There is a thread on MSE about Pet Insurance and you should see the praise they get on there and the thousands and thousands of pounds the people on there are claiming each year for existing conditions that would not be covered by 95% of the other Insurers
I know your will not agree but there is no doubt that Pet Plans policy is by far the best on the market. Its not the cheapest by a lng run but you get what you pay for.
(I do not work for Pet Plan)0 -
The premium is very very high, how old is your dog and is it pedigree?
My dog (a bit of this and bits of that breed) is 13 now had numerous claims over the years and I only pay £37 per month with £150 excess and 30% contribution. Its a lot of money and I did consider cancelling a while ago but kept it and am sooooo glad as she has now been diagnosed as diabetic and with insulin, needles, blood testing kits and prescription diet as well as consultations her bill is well in excess of £1500 since December.
I did have cover with patplan myself when she was a tiny pup but they put the premiums up for no apparant reason so I moved to Pet protect and they have been fantastic would certainly recomend them although as you say you can't change now:rolleyes:;):o:rolleyes:;):o:o:cool:

She's a 6 year old rottweiler, she's just had kennel cough, then she was neutered, she started really biting her tail which has caused dermititis which led to the Vet finding a a tumor. All in a couple of months =[
My vet did recommend we stayed on with Petplan and said they're pretty good to deal with, its just the price that's really putting me in a dillemma. I'm not doubting they are a good company, it's just in my case the cost of paying everything myself isn't that much different from the cost of claiming on the insurance.
If the tumor/lump turned out to not be a problem and we didnt need to claim on the insurance would we still be able to cancel before the 12months after everything has been sorted out?0
