I need to insure my sons nintendo DS, maybe some other household gaming consoles (ps3, nintendo wii, sony PSP)
My question is, does anyone know any way I can get this done which covers accidental damage/fault, even if its taken out of the house?

If you take out home contents cover and include Accidental Damage eg spilling drinks on it and dropping it etc and "Personal Belonging Cover" or its sometimes called Unspecified Personal Effects" cover as this covers it away from home for dropping, things being spilt on it and theft etc.
It will also cover the rest of your contents for the same things.
The insurance will be around £160 a year but if you use some of the cash backs on quidco etc it will come down below £100.
Be careful when you are quoting as the websites will quote you with a big voluntary excess (This is the amount you pay towards a claim). Get the site to quote with Nil Voluntary excess and then you will have to pay between £50 and £75 towards a claim.0 -

It would be worth speaking to a whole of games-console adviserHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Why do you need it now?
My son is 5 and fights with his sister quite a bit over belongings, he broke the lcd tv 2 years ago by smashing the screen, cost me £750, broke the hinge on a DS, cost me £90. I figure it may save me in the long run until my son learns the value of things.
My house though is very secure and there is no way we are easy to get broken into, houses all face onto each other, no fences, will this in any way get us some kind of a reduced rate?0 -

It's simply not worth insuring or claiming for a Nintendo DS.
Cost new = £100.
Insurance xs = £50
Claims loading the following year - say another £50 on a £250 policy.
= £100
Cost to insurers - nil. £50 paid out, £50 recouped in premium loading for claims the following year.
Cost of replacement DS sourced via Ebay etc - £700 -

Absolutely.
For goodness sake....
Behave as if you are uninsured. Insurance is for catastrophes - not because little Johnny wants a new DS.
Reassuringly expensive0
