Verifying website on google

Hi there,

I wonder if anyone with a bit more technical knowledge than me can help.

I built a website using a flash based web design product and I have registered my URL with google. However when trying to register this site with google I am really struggling to work out how to do it. The below text is the message on the google website.

We offer two methods of verification. You can either upload an HTML file with a name we specify, or you can add a meta tag to your site's index file.

Unfortunately I cant get beyond this point

Any help appreciated

cheers

Paul

    it probably means upload the file they specify onto your site or add some tag into the code of your website to prove that you do indeed own it

    doesn't it say anything else on the page?

    If you don't know how to edit any of your webpage's html, then possibly your best solution would be to copy, then rename an existing html file to whatever name Google specified for you. Upload it to your website and Google with verify the file it there, confirming you have access (and thus ownership) of the site.

    Alternately ask any 12 year old who is computer-literate to help you.

    Inside the <head> tag of your index page you need to add something like below ( just use a text editor)
    don't add the lines which start and end <% %>
    of course you would need to use the verification numbers issued to you

    <html>
    <head>
    <!-- Meta Tags -->

    <% ' Google meta tag for verification %>
    <meta name="verify-v1" content="LQr4uLnzcQgfdsgCgm8P61kxBh9dfdfsfAhukya0Qt4=" />

    <% ' Yahoo meta tag for verification %>
    <META name="y_key" content="4b4dgbasfasf52c8fcd" />
    <META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="blah, blah">
    </head>
