2 internet connections?

I may be moving back in with the parents and my mum has internet by supa net via modem. I currently have option 3 on BT - is it possible to transfer my connection to my mum's and keep the supanet connection? I have a laptop and the PC is connected to the supanet modem.

Only if you get a second phone line which means paying 2 line rentals

if either is out of contract period cancel it
  • Is Supanet dialup? When you say via modem I assume thats what you mean. If that is the case then all you need to do is get a broadband provider.

You do not need 2 phone lines to share internet in the same house. If you got broadband you can share that connection with your mum and anyone else with a computer in the house. You can even use a dialup modem on the same phone line while using a broadband connection if you really wanted to (although that would be a bit daft). I recommend O2 or BE as good broadband providers by the way. You can get this for under £14 per month as well as getting casback.

Also, if Supanet is a subscription service you could cancel it, as it won't be needed anymore.
  • No my mum has broadband but unlike mine it isn't wireless. So as there is already broadband in the house, does this mean that I can use my home hub on the same line (I would be paying for my own broadband anyway) and my mum can still be connected to supanet? If I keep my broadband, it means I have my own phone number as I have option 3

No you cannot have 2 broadband connections on the same phone line and homehub does not work with non-BT internet connections - to do this you will need to fit a second phone line

Just buy a new wireless adsl router.
  • Yeah, if she already has broadband, share that connection, why complicate matters. Do what Posted says, buy a wireless router and adaptor for your laptop.

why spend money on one when he can just transfer over the BT and use his existing router?

That will be up to the parents to decide, there may be a £40 + a contract buy out cancellation charge.
