M&S pet insurance

We first took out our policy with M&S for our then 3 year old lab/springer cross 3 years ago and it was about £12/month, they now are putting up the payment to £33/month and have introduced 2 excess clauses, rtaher than excess free I have to pay the first £70 and when he reaches 9 years old (in 18 months time) I have to pay 20% of the bill as well as the first £70.
He does have arthritus (mild) but I don't see the point in keeping this policy on as I am only ever going to be able to claim for 80% of large bills. But in the meantime pay £395 per year which would add up to about £2,750 in my dogs likley lifespan, however the way they have been increasing the premiums that is more likley to be about £4,000. He is only covered up to £7,000 anyway.
It seems likely to me that I would be much better off just not having insurance, has anyone else come to a similar conclusion.

There are a lot of threads on this on MSE, do a search for them.
Basically M&S have just changed Insurers to Royal and Sun Alliance and they were only prepared to take it on with an increase in premiums and an excess0 -
My Cat used to be on M&S £0 excess & then they introduced this % + excess, she too has mild arthritis which i'd claimed for & she has a £25 bottle of Synoquin 4x a year so not too expensive (£100/year)
I changed her to Axa, who have a fixed excess of £50, no % even tho she turns 11 on Wednesday & £7,000 for life cover. It may well be worth getting a quote from them online, they're supposed to provide a good quality policy & I just put my first claim in so shall know soon! It cost me £107.59 for the year.0 -

Or don't do this and get Petplan in place asapHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I have decided to self insure because I don't think pet insurance represents value0

You may have a problem as Insurers normally exclude any "Existing Conditions" when you transfer to them so if your dog had the athritus before you started with Axa there is a good chance they will not pay the claim and exclude cover for the existing athritus0
