Turned down for CC-please advise

Options
I wonder if anyone can give me any advice.
I don't really understand how credit scoring etc works but we have just applied for a Sky Card a few days ago but I expect we will get knocked back because last night I applied for a Mint card and then a Sainsburys card and got knocked back both times,
Just before Christmas we bought two sofas on credit and then we remortgaged our house in Jan and paid a load of our debts off (ironically two Sainsburys loans were part of that!) and we paid our sofas off too.
Do you think it's because of the remortgage and the sofas that we are getting knocked back for credit cards now? The only reason we needed a 0% cc is because after paying all our debts off, our boiler has started to die on us and we have a 6 week old baby so we do need hot water and heating!
Please advise!

You need to check your credit reference files. That will give you an idea why you're being rejected.

If you make more than 2 or 3 applications for credit in a short space of time, a lot of lenders consider this suspicious and will reject you straight away, regardless of how good the rest of your file is.

If you keep applying for cards and getting knocked back you will hurt your ability to get further credit. Golden rule - if you ever get rejected for credit, always check your files first.

Article here explains what's going on and how to check your files:

P.S. chances are you're being rejected because you've had a lot of credit recently. Lenders may consider you a big risk because of this.
  • I agree with Angie, you HAVE to get hold of your credit reports and it only costs £2 apiece,so do that first, don't apply for anything else until you know how you stand in the credit ratings...my bloody boilers on its way out too,(why do they always go in winter?) :(
