Not really. It is up to the consumer to choose how they pay, I will not be dictated to as to what medium I may or may not use to pay for particular goods/services.
I very rarely carry cash and always pay for items regardless of their value on my Debit card, as I find it more convenient for me to use and manage my money, however I dont tend to use small businesses for my day to day purchases they tend to be larger outlets.
Yes, consumers are free to be inconsiderate !!!!!! if they like. If your short-term selfish arsedness is more important to you than common civility then that is your choice. Don't start whingeing about any other aspects of unsocial behaviour that you do happen to disapprove of, though.0 -
Way are you tendering a card for a small £6 transaction in the first place? That is very inconsiderate of you.
Some people.
This could explain the charge! Usually there is a floor limit, in some shops they won't take credit cards for under 25 quid. But to be fair I use switch at McDonalds all the time.... even though it may only be a happy meal - moreso just to annoy them!!!!

No, just an old-fashioned fool who disapproves of (some aspects of) petty selfishness.0

Ah, but that is why they have put the prices up. Funny how everything seems to have gone up by 50p since they introduced card payments.......
I think the likes of Tesco would only get charged 10p, our card processing fees are much higher than this and we negotiated a price as we are members of a federation, if you are not a member the usual card processing fee is around 45p for a debit card. If someone is spending £4.50 that is 10% of your sale going on a card processing charge.
And you have to pay a minimum monthly charge for your merchant account so you need to factor this in as well.0
