Ok, I think I'm getting the overall sentiment of the responses. Just a few things to clarify.

When I say that there is a generous Settlement Sum on the table, this is in fact one months pay for every year of service which I consider to be generous compared to the statutory amount but is actually quite normal in the financial services sector. I therefore retract what I say and do not see this figure to be generous nor any admission of guilt or sweetner by the employer.

Can the point about protection be elaborated on please? The notification of redundancy was made approximately 11 months into the 12 month maternity period and the original maternity end date is fast approaching. Note that the 3 month notice of termination began on the date of redundancy notification and that employee X is no longer required to return to the office. If she doesn't attempt to return back on the scheduled end of the maternity leave, does this constitute some sort of agreement to the compromise agreement?
