Urgent basic wallpapering q.

Soak or don't soak?

ALL the wallpaper I have EVER bought has all had instructions to soak for varying lengths of time depending on the paper.

Just about to start papering my bedroom and there's nothing on the instructions about soaking. No mention at all. Made a quip to friend about how it will cut down the time needed but she tells me she was told by a decorator that ALL paper should soak whether it says to do it or not. He reckons you get a bad job if it doesn't soak.

Don't know what to do now. It's vinyl paper, if I do let it soak....how long for?

Surely the manufacturer would have stipulated soaking if it was necessary????

Help?

Does your paste instructions say anything about it? We usually find that a few minutes is long enough.

Not really.....all the paste says is: Allow heavy and embossed papers to soak until supple.

    Mine is neither.

    Thanks john. :)

I've already put up the very first length but by the time I'd got it straight etc at least 10 minutes had probably passed before I actually stuck it to the wall if you see what I mean. :o

I'll let the rest of it soak.

  • Agree, leave it 5-10 minutes. Good time to get your pasting table cleaned and get the next length cut.

This is true......there's also the added bonus of having time to make several cups of tea inbetween lengths ;)

(I can sense this is going to be a long day........... )

Seriously though, I appreciate the advice, thanks everyone. :D
