When can I claim JSA? Should I pay off debts?

I am being made redundant and will leave my company on 3rd April However I am being paid notice in lieu which is up tp 26th June.
When should (can) I claim JSA. Will I get any JSA after 3rd April or is it best to wait until June?
Will my redundancy pay be taken into account?
Should I use some of my redundancy pay to clear credit card debts?
