Cheap insurance quote: Advice please.

I have insured my buildings & contents with Halifax for the past 6 years and have just received my renewal notice. I have never made a claim. For the first 3 years the premium went down each year but in the last 3 years has increased by 50% to £457. I have got quotes from Confused.com, the cheapest being £196 from Halifax! This includes £50 switching cashback for the first year.
What should I do now? If I sign up via Confused.com am I eligible for the cashback even though I am still with Halifax? Should I phone Halifax for a pricematch? Get an online quote from Halifax? Any other suggestions?

I'm not sure if you can do that or not, I suspect there will be some way, perhaps a customer who has done this can enlighten you or may be Flamecloud can answer it.
P.S You have just discovered why your premium with Halifax kept increasing, it was partially to subsidise the cheaper prices for new customers. Bear in mind if you take the cheaper price with Halifax it will go back up a lot next year0 -
Frustrating as it is.........new customers only people...............Reassuringly expensive0

I called Halifax and accepted their offer of £311. Seems as if this will need to be an annual routine from now on.0
