24 hours in Boston

I'm off skiing in New Hampshire at the end of the week and I have 1 Night in Boston. I land at 2pm friday and leave Boston around 4pm the following day. What can't I afford to miss?
Thanks

  • Make sure you do the trolleybus tour, they pick up around town and take in all the points of interest, great fun.
Also go down to the big market area in the evening for a meal(forget what it's called but it's right in the centre.)

It's called Quincy Market or Faneuil Hall

    Weather could be a factor

Usual stuff is to take a Duck Tour

    or walk the Freedom Trail

There is the original Cheers bar frontage used for the TV (don't go in!) but not worth the walk really.

There's a Fake one at Faneul Hall.

    Some good ideas here

    Hello ejmna1

Have a look at a previous thread Boston and New England for ideas.

As I mentioned in post #6 in the thread, I can recommend shopping at Filene's Basement if you love a bargain.

    Have a lovely holiday.

The trolley bus tour is a must(there are several firms)

You can get on and off at any stop and some include a harbour tour - on a ship - not on the bus you understand!!

    'Cheers' bar not woth seeing.

If it is your 'thing' you can visit the Naval establishment and see the oldest ship in the US Navy - Old Ironsides - and World War 2 destroyer - the bus stops there.

Be prepared for non-stop(light hearted) commentary from the driver - "this is where we beat the British" "X thousand British killed here."

If you're a fan of Renior paintings, I can recommend the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard. Have a look at this link to search for some of the Renoir paintings on display at the Fogg Art Musuem. Click on the list of paintings on the right.

To save you some time searching through the full list, I've found the following Renoir paintings which on display at the Fogg Art Museum:

    Gabrielle in a Red Blouse
    Seated Bather
    Bouquet of Spring Flowers

Get the T (underground) to Cambridge.........where Harvard University is situated.

Enjoy your visit to Boston and Cambridge.

You could go whale watching, but if you've only got a day it might be too tight.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that the whales migrate down the coast of the USA and stop off at the Stellwagen Bank in the spring/summer months. I doubt that there would be any whales to see in February/March months.;)
