Gas & Electricity New Deal
Options
Hello all
I am about to move into a property which was a reposession. All utilites are currently switched off.
What are the best deals at the moment?
I am currently in rented property at the mo & use British Gas & N Power. Should I switch to dual??
Any help is appreciated.

Calculate or make best guess at annual consumption and put in current tariffs on a comparison site. Check savings for dual fuel and then look at tabs for Gas only and Elec only to see what would be best for you.
Best deals vary regionally and depending on heavy/light user etc. I wouldn't fix into a deal with an exit penalty but otherwise, go for cheapest bearing in mind you might need to switch again as things change.
Also bear in mind that not all price changes have gone on comparison sites. You might want to check most recent changes on suppliers' own websites.0 -
I would normally suggest you do a comparison using the websites above in the resource bar, checking also whether dual fuel is actually cheaper - increasingly it appears opting for single fuels from different suppliers is the better option.
However, as you are only about to move into the property, you won't know your actual usage figures so any comparison will be difficult. Rather than jumping out of the proverbial frying pan, just accept the current suppliers (which you'll need to do anyway if you want gas/electric on the day you get the keys) and wait a while to establish your expected annual usage before switching.
Most repossessed properties usually have the suppliers simply switched off at the isolation switch/valve; reconnection is therefore usually a simple case which you can do yourself (or using a qualified appropriate engineer if in any doubt)."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
If the property is a repossession there is a strong chance the supplies will be disconnected if you call the current suppliers (you need to anyway) they will tell you.0
