I didn't realise that the OU level 1 courses, I thought it was just straight into degree level!!! Cheers guys, I'm off to check it out!0

Just to clarify; Level 1 with the OU is equivalent to the first year of a degree. (Don't worry, this confuses lots of people!) However, the Level 1 short courses I mentioned are specifically designed for people with no previous study at this level and as an introduction to study. As well as specific subject matter, you can do 10 point courses in something like essay writing.0
