But what Id want to know is why this girl is humping everything? Have you spoken to the vet about this - could be a hormonal imbalance that could be treated.

I think it's a behavioural thing - it's basically her bedding, or rather specific types of bedding. She's not one of those that goes around attacking peoples legs, so if I can avoid the bedding that sets her off it's not a problem.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Its strange for a girl though. I remember my sister having a girl who did this and her vet said if there is only one girl in a litter of boys they sometimes have a hormonal imbalance.

Is it that odd? all our girls have been through humping phases, through out their adolecence, to some degree. We've never had an all boy litter, and infact only once have had two dogs in our household of many female pets. We have three young female dogs ATM, and the youngest is still a bit sapphic:o
  • My 18mth old boy cocker still tries to hump my 8yr old boy Springer - even though he's been castrated. The cocker was also destructive when it came to bedding too. So after 2 or 3 goes with different beds he's now more than happy with big bath towels. He sometimes tries to chew or pull at the threads, but on the whole he's OK with them. He has them in his crate and on a morning brings them out with him. If he forgets, and you close the crate door he sits and cries at the door til you let him in to fetch them!

Ive never had a girl do it. I had it with the two boys when we first took the second one on but obviously that was a domination thing rather than a sexual one.

I have heard great things about Vet beds too.

As for blankets, we have a couple of ASDA Smart price throws (£1.77 each). They wash well in the washing machine and our Westie has had one of them for about 2 years, she isn't much of a chewer though.

I would imagine its the same here ;) but all the girls we've bred from have had good fertility etc. I wouldn't automatically assume a health problem :)

Instead of having to keep buying bedding, have you not thought of consulting a dog trainer to see if the destructive behaviour can be cured?
