Ryanair to charge for Web Check In from May

Just read in the Metro this morning the following:

Ryanair has moved forward plans for a 100 percent web check-in service to October 1 this year.

From May 1, a web check-in fee of £5 per person, per flight will apply.

Airport check-in fees will double to £20.

Looks like there goes the days of 1p flights!!

FYI - this is on page 35 of today's metro.

It also says "except promotional fares " so thatrs what the 1p flights would come under surely

Unfortunately it didn't include that information in the newspaper, but you're right....it is on their website.

So it's not quite as bad as it seems!

There has never been true 1p flights they have always been subject to all manner of add ons. I have found these low cost airlines often work out more expensive then the ''proper'' ( lol ) airlines

I don't mind Ryanair charging for optional stuff (bags, speedy boarding, certain payment methods), but I think charging for checking in is a bit sneaky - you have to check in one way or another, so why don't they up the front page price of their fares to include web check in, then say "but if you want to check in at the desk it will cost extra".

Or will online check in be 'free' once it's compulsary because they've got rid of the desks?

I have to disagree with you. I've often had 1p flights but you do need to be flexible with dates and flight times, pay by Electron card, have no checked luggage, cancel the priority boarding and travel insurance they try to add and choose web check-in. If you do all that, it is possible. Honest!

During Phase 2 (1st May to 30th Sept) online checkin with costs £5 except for promotion fares. From Phase 3 (1st Oct) there will be no airport checkin but there is no mention of what the fees will be from that date.

Also if you are going away for over 14 days you will need to print your return boarding card whilst on holiday, that may not always be that simple depending on were you are.

You have missed out then. Ryanair have often had 1p per sector fares, as bcl said, without any tax etc. to add on.

Sorry, but that comment is nonsense.

Whilst I question some of Ryanairs actions, I have booked in excess of 50 flights at 1p each way, including all my costs, taxes and charges. They actually take 1p (or 2p return) from my card.
