Cheapo Direct Debit signup to qualify for A&L £100

Hi folks,
The potential £150 up for grabs for signing up to A&L via quidco is mighty tempting, but I don't have a direct debit to transfer so that I'd qualifiy.

I'm after suggestions for what I could get that would be direct debit that could then be transfered.

Cheers,
Pete

You can open an ING savings account. This account need you to link to one of your current account with direct debit. Use this current account to apply, you will be qualified. And also ING savings account does not require monthly payment. So you can stop the payment until your account transfer completed.

With A&L's reputation for messing up I'd strongly advise against this one.

I have heard they aren't great, but how wrong could it go?

    I figure I

    1. Sign up for ING and set up a £5/month direct debit.
    2. Apply through quidco and make sure i hit the transfer my debits option.
    3. Drop £500 into the account
    4. Wait for my money

I've got 2 shots at getting cash, once through quidco and again as part of the A&L offer.

Worst case I can see is that after 4 months I've been given nothing and my money has been sitting in an account with reasonable interest for a while.

I don't think the ING direct debit can be set up until you activate it with a cheque from your new A&L account. This might cause a problem at the A&L end and could cost you your £100 incentive?

I've switched a few times for incentives but have so far been able to avoid switching DD's (only switching SO's), but if it was me I'd switch a utility or two.
  • That would probably be smart, but I live in share housing where all bills are included in the rent. So there's squat in my name. Hence my need to conjure a direct debit to qualify.

A couple of quid a month by DD set up to a charity of your choice?
You set the amount and no problem cancelling as and when.

Do you already buy any regular magazines that you could set up a subscription for?

However the t&c, if I've read them correctly, say that you must use the switching service to qualify. They say ...

"switch existing direct debits or standing orders from your old account to your new Premier current account"

It doesn't say that you have to switch a certain number of d/d's, or even any at all. As long as your existing s/o's are switched by them surely they count as using their service. Perhaps set us some inter-acc s/o if you don't have some already!

I'll agree with other posters. A&L's extremely poor service goes above and beyond all other financial institutions I have tried. Take their money and run! Don't close your existing a/c, but use A&L as a springboard to cash in on other incentives like First Direct & Halifax.
