I won't waste the effort by giving my usual remarks about this stealth tax. I am going to be nice for a change, and I am going to do something practical for the lily livered who do not have the pluck to stand up to this stealth tax.

Many of you will ring up with your card to pay this stealth tax. They will give you an 087 number and you will have to pay for the phone bill while you pay.

But if you ring instead this number
0800 3282020

you will go through to the same place, have the same numbered options and speak to the same seething mass of inhumanity.

So while you are figuratively lying on your backs to have your tummies tickled, they can put you on hold for as long as they like and you won't have to suffer when the phone bill comes.

There. Am I not nice to you

...even if you don't deserve it?

I always thought that if you are been charged anything other than a normal call charge then they have to inform you.

Unfortunately, there's a lot of (often intentional) confusion in the industry regarding what is a "normal" call charge.
