Baumatic Cooker Hood

Options
Hi all,

I have a baumatic cooker hood which was fitted in my kitchen when I moved in. It has lights in it as well as being an extractor. One day it went bang and neither the lights or the extractor were working.

I replaced the both lights and I also traced the power to a fused spur and replaced the fuse in that and still no joy.

Is there going to be another fuse somewhere in the unit or can anyone give me any pointers on what this could be?

Thanks in advance

Do you have a multimeter? If so check whether there is any power going to the fused spur.

Have you checked your consumer unit/fuse box for a tripped rcd/blown fuse? Note that this is pretty unlikely as it wouldn't normally be on its own circuit and hence you'd have noticed other things not working.

Do you have any instructions for it?

apart from that I'm not sure what else you can do other than get someone in to inspect it and/or replace it.

In my experience when cooker hoods go they go!

The switch and speed controller for the fan tend to be on a PCB that is difficult / impossible (depending on age) to get a replacement for.

In the past i have rewired a cooker hood adding extra controls in an adjacent kitchen unit. It took me 1/2 a day and ended up costring the customer £110 inc parts and labour. (and i am told i'm cheap!)

Anyway the hood i did that on was a 90cm wide one about 4 years ago. They were still retailling for £800 plus back then so i suppose the repair was worth it. Now however you can get a new 90cm hood for around £160 and a 60cm hood for well under £100 so it may be worth biting the bullet and replacing it?

This is only my opinion. It may be something simple that can be fixed easly and cheaply, however if you pay roughly a £30-£40 call out charge to find it cant be fixed and still end up replacing, you may be better off replacing in the first place?

    Hope this helps?
