Around December I contacted my local council (Lincoln City) as I realised that I hadn't had a single persons discount applied, - they were absolutely brilliant, immediately updated my details and sent out an adjusted bill the same day. They also nilled the charge for 2 of the months last year as my house was unfurnished and unoccupied at this time. No evidence was required and everything was sorted with a 2 minute phone call.

Letter in progress - but does anyone know what the relevant date would be for my foreign national wife occupying my house as an additional resident ? Wedding Date, granting of Limited LEave to remain (1 month after wedding) or granting of Indefinite Leave to Remain (last year) or granting of citizenship ? One wonders do asylum seekers pay council tax ? Should I put all of this information in the letter ? Is it relevant ?

The date she physically moved in is the date you stop claiming single person discount.
