When should I change my boiler?

I have a Glow worm Fuelsaver F. Anyone know roughly how old these are? I searched on line and see reference to 1986.

So if it is about 20 ish years old, when is the right time to change? It's working ok, but I'm guessing it will need to be changed soon?

Also, what are the rough costs for a new boiler? (probably a very open ended question, but I don't know boilers!). My parents just had a new one at £3k - but had to have the new one in a completely new location along with the necessary work to do it.

When it's broken and cannot be repaired, either because it would be financially unviable to or because replacement parts cannot be sourced.

A new boiler costs between £470 and £836 from Screwfix, dependant on model, but the labour charges to fit one will probably easily double that even for a straight replacement.

Good afternoon: We meet again;) Material cost includes much more than the boiler price eg. new cylinder, pump, controls pack, pipe lagging, chemicals, fittings, flue (and pluming kit if required), copper tube, TRVs, magnetic filter... the 'all in' price depends on whether your RGI follows 'Best Practice' or 'cowboys' the install. What did your parents get for their £3000? Your current boiler is old and isn't rated on the SEDBUK site for energy efficiency (depending on which version of the Fuelsaver you have).

lol deja vu.im the exact same as you.have the same boiler.parents had it fitted in 86.i now live in the house with my family now and time to replace it.as quoted in previous reply.the old boiler and hot water cylinder needs taken out and tank in loft if there is one.new regulations need new gas pipe from mains to boiler.condensate pipe fitted to external wall.powerflush.then the new boiler, flue thermostatic controls.been quoted £2500 to £3900 for job.going for £2800 quote for a worcester bosh 30cdi with 5yrs warranty from a worecster bosh accredited installer.all parts, labour and electrical work included.british gas wasnt even the most expensive quote,it was £3500 for a wb 28i junior.best to get 5 quotes as i did because there's huge variations for the same spec.hope this gives you a rough idea.im in the angus/tayside area.
