That statement tells me two things: there are daily reports and he is ignoring or discarding them. Sounds like he is digging a PR hole. That leaves hindsight or at best firefighting / go with the flow.

I agree it is not all his fault. What is not clear, at least to myself, is how much tighter regulation would have insulated the uk economy given that the lending markets are global anyway.
