Abbey A/C holders check your statements

HiI opened an abbey current A/C last year when they had offer of 8% interest on balaces up to £2500. So far i have had no problems at all with them and its actually quite good to see £15 coming into account every month for interest.Anyway coming back to reason for the post, I noticed that for the months of january and february there has been no interest credited to the account. I called them yesterday and they said they would investigate and get back to me. Today i received a call saying there is a problem with their IT systems and it is being investigated. They did promise that Interest will eventually be credited back to the acount but would take some time (was advised 5-7 days). So just a heads up for people to check their abbey accounts to see if they have correctly received the interest or not? if not give them a call...CheersJ

  • I've had the same problem.
I opened the same current account (6% though, not 8%) in Dec 2008 and the only interest i've received so far was on 13 Jan this year. When I contacted Abbey about this last week I was told I wasn't entitled to the 6% in credit rate until after 12 months. When I questioned this he said it was stated in the terms and conditions so I said I would check and get back to him. I quickly realised he was talking bull so I contacted them again and spoke to another operator who agreed with me and advised me to check my a/c on 12 March. This I have done and guess what? Still no interest has been paid.
So I did a bit of googling and discovered others who have had the same problem. With this in mind I have hastily prepared a letter which will be winging it's way to my nearest branch of Abbey, asap!

It is best to send letters like this to customer services/head office as it isn't the sort of thing branch staff will be able to deal with (they'll just forward it on which adds delay).

As i pointed out, i got my pending interest for last two months today. so i would advise that if you havent received the interest, then at least give the customer service a call and see if they can sort it over the phone....saves the trouble of writing a letter.........
