CLOSED - Mini - brake pads and discs needed
hi there
i need to replace the brake pads and maybe also the discs on a mini
went to bmw, and was quoted £160 (brake pads) and £360 (to include discs)
havent used any local mechanics for a while, so was wondering if i should find a garage "under the arches" or stick with a main dealer. the car is just over a year old.
also if i go for a seperate garage, how much should the jobs cost?
any recommendation for west london would be great
cheers
the chudmeister!

if it's only just over a year old it'd be worth checking the small print on the warrenty. How many miles have you done in it incidentally just incase you're needing the brakes replacing way too early.0

sadly it is over the warranty, but i have been told that the warranty doesnt cover pads
apparently i have done well to get 30k out of one set of pads and discs
now comes the pay back.....:grouphug: Lets hug!! :grouphug:0 -
Check with a Mini owners group, I seem to remember there being an issue with the standard items and people with a 'AHEM' heavy braking foot, especially in lahhhhhndahhhhn. I also remember the last Mini we took in the owner said that he upgraded to ?green stuff? pads as they were much better.

Yeah many manufacturers now seem to be making their pads out of mush, I think it's to stop brake squeal or something, but the upshot is that a lot of them don't last too long. Pattern parts are usually a lot cheaper and often last longer.
The only problem is, that you're supposed to use only official manufacturer parts over the term of the warranty. So if you put some recommended pattern pads on the car, and then there is a fault with the braking system later on, the dealer *might* decide to be difficult and refuse to fix the car under warranty. Not sure if they'd be able to get away with it, but it's one to watch out for.0 -
thanks you all for the posts
spoke to bmw today
the calipers were jamming (and ruining) the brakes! so under warranty got a new set of pads and discs courtsey of the warranty! nice!:grouphug: Lets hug!! :grouphug:0 -
Always a result when things like that happen. You'll doubtless get another 40K out of them. Glad to hear you're sorted.0
