Boiler offer from British Gas

I got a letter yesterday with an offer, see https://www.britishgas.co.uk/boileroffer.

It doesn't give out prices, just money that can be saved with the offer (£200 off + £100 loyalty + £204 for 1 year's free homecare (so that's not money off the boiler)). I don't believe our boiler is in need of being replaced but it's certainly over 10 years old and if this is a really good offer I might consider.

Anyone with any knowledge - does this look any good?

  • I wouldn't imagine there should ever be a sentence containing the words 'British Gas' and 'bargain boiler' in it. Unless it also contained the words 'in no way is this a' in it also.

It matters not what sort of money off they are allegedly giving, what matters is the actual net price. And if the experience of myself and many other people on here is anything to go by, you would save many many hundreds of pounds by using a recommended local Gorgi plumber. HTH.

Good morning: Generally, BG does not give competitive quotes. You would be better off getting quotes from RGIs recommended to you by a source you trust for a quality install (e.g.Vaillant or Viessmann, powerflush, Boiler Buddy or Magnaclean etc.) If the RGI is an accredited/approved installer, most manufacturers will offer an extended warranty (in the case of Viessmann, 5 years subject to annual servicing).

Any price you get from BG would be a good yardstick...most independent RGIs would be at least £1000+ cheaper for the same/superior specification.
