Last summer I rang up to cancel my barclaycard after reading a post on this site and them having announced the end of the nectar partnership. I already had my conran card out and working for cashback and my capital one platinum interest free for 18 months with £14k on it saving me money on my mortgage, so my need of the barclaycard was waning fast.
I think I have been a customer for about 10 years or so, so I was quite pleased when they offered me £40 nectar vouchers like others were receiving and asked me if I would wait until the new deals came out.
7 months later and the deals still haven't arrived, so I though I really would close it down this time as it coming around to time to move my capital one onto another card and I didn't want the £7.5k available credit affecting my new applications.
So when I rang through this afternoon and they put me through to the nice gentleman at customer retentions and explained why I wanted to go, no nectar, no insurance against price fluctuations, increased interest rates, and I am moving house soon and don't want to be seen to have too much credit available!! He said "well, as you have been such a great customer (I always pay my bills at the end of the month so I don't know what that is about - cough cough) we would like to give you £30 of high street vouchers as a good-will gesture and I can reduce your credit limit down to £500 so that it is not affected. Not bad for a 5 min phone call!!!
Hope this helps some of you - the vouchers should arrive in the next four weeks he said.
Regards,
Benj

Same thing happened to my OH, he was promised all sorts, but nothing ever materialised. He phoned to cancel at the weekend, and they didn't even try to keep his custom! card was promptly cancelled.0

They done the dirty on me regarding nectar points. All transactions were done before August, I had paid what I owed before the ending date, could have paid until September 16th.
They would not give me the points I was entitled to. I kept on at them and eventually they give me £5 cash in my currant account, I was only entitled to about £3 in nectar points.
When they seen I was not using my Barclay card they put £5 credit on it. I think it's still there, I will not use it again.

I called them to cancel my barclaycard mastercard today as I have too many cards and wanted to clear out my wallet a little. As an incentive to stay I was given an interest rate reduction from 19.9% to 9.9% for as long as I have the card. This took about 30 seconds on the phone - I was shocked as I didn't expect that. This is better than the MBNA card that I was going to keep at 15.9% which is now going instead.0
