College hair dressing salon - brilliant!!

Just quick note to say how impressed I was with my local college and their hair salon. Desperate to save some money I booked myself in for a wet cut and blow dry, usually at a cost of at least £25. I have to admit to being a little apprehensive, but the young trainee who cut my hair was brilliant, it was checked regularly by the tutor and one minor mistake (I wouldn't have noticed) was corrected by the tutor. The only thing I would add was that it took a little longer than normal however I can honestly say that the hair cut was better than some I have had from fully qualified stylists, and was bargain at £6.60. I felt much more confidant speaking to the trainee and actually found it easier to discuss what I wanted with her and she was very keen to make sure my hair was cut exactly as I wanted, (unlike some salons, where the 'stylist' can be a bit dismissive).

So well done Lincoln college, I'm hoping to try out some of their other beauty treatments soon, can't say no to a manicure for £4.50 can I!

Reminds me of my impoverished student days when we travelled to Sweden. We found a cookery school, and for a small charge were let into a large room which was filled with what the students had been cooking. We were then allowed to eat as much as we wanted.

Does anyone know of a similar setup in this country ?

I am sure some colleges do have restaurants were you can get a meal cooked by the catering students.

For instance here is one :-

And another one here :- http://www.rfdc.ac.uk/college-life-subcat.asp?pg=55

As you see, they are usually called training restaurants.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?
  • My daughter uses this college http://www.burton-college.ac.uk/about/innovations.asp for various things relating to hair etc. and wouldn't go anywhere else. As said previously the trainees are under constant scrutiny and supervision so it's a "no brainer" in true MSE tradition.

A friend has been here and said it was good. It's part of Gateshead college and it's near the Sage building.

I haven't got round to going yet, but I'm keen to try the hairdressing and the massage as I get stiffness in my shoulders and upper back when I've been doing too much desk work.
Here I go again on my own....

A lot of colleges have a restaurant for the the students to "practice" on !
Our local one is meant to be very good value - but the service can be a bit slow, because if the meal isn't up to standard the instructor won't let it leave the kitchen and another one has to be done !
